Tara's tote bags

History of the Tote Bag

The term tote or "to carry", traces back to the 17th  century although it’s not used to describe bags until 1900. However, the tote bag popularity in the United States began in the 1940s with the
release of L.L. Bean's Boat Bag in 1944. Because they were easier than carrying luggage, most people opted for using tote bags. During the 1950s, tote bags began to enter into the main culture. Women primarily used them as practical handheld bags as they didn't require much care. It wasn't until the 1960s when the tote bag embraced personal style. Bonnie Cashin released her own line of tote bags called Cashin Carry.
Tote Bags which combined style and functionality. In the 1990s, a great handbag designer ultimately transformed how American culture embraced tote bags when she began carrying them as fashion bags.
Today, fashion
lovers and consumers can find tote bags in a variety of styles and themes.

Tara Salgado designed the ‘Natalia’ bag in 2017 combining her colors in
every posible way, adding a small detachable leather pouch, and made two sizes of this beautiful handcrafted handbag that has been so popular since she introduced it in her collection.

Majorcan Baskets at Tara´s

Majorcan Baskets at Tara´s

Tara Salgado was determined to make a handbag based on the traditional Majorcan Baskets, just like there is a reason why she opened her workshop in Inca, the capital of leather, there is a reason why for so many years these baskets have been used by many, and handcrafted for generations.

Working with leather was a challenge, and making a handbag of that style but compatible with Tara´s materials was also important to her.
The weight, as well as stitching and hardware where the main difficulties at first but, after much effort at her workshop they came up with the first one, seven years later she has been able to improve it year by year. By SS2019 the basket will be back in her collection, available for personalizing.

Tara developed several types of baskets, always with beautiful leathers but different in size and color. It has now become a signature bag for the brand, very verstile and easy to match with many styles and trends. Customers from around the world use it for its sophistication and originality
